The Katy Trail State Park

The Katy Trail State Park runs along the abandoned railbed of the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway. That name was abbreviated to the MKT and further shortened to the “Katy.” The trail’s eastern terminus is at the little community of Machens, Missouri, and its western terminus is 240 miles away at Clinton, Missouri.

The entire route is a Missouri state park, and historical interpretive stations along the route offer travelers an easy way to learn about the communities and landscapes that they pass through.

To the south of it, reuse of the abandoned Rock Island Line railbed as a second cross-state bicycle trail has begun on the western end, linking most of the route from Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium to the town of Windsor at the crossroads of the two trails.
