  • Taught magazine editing, PR writing and media ethics among other coursework. Graduate coursework included documentary film, advanced television production and historical research.

The Morning News

The Morning News has since been merged with the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Metro editor – July 2000 to August 2003

  • Supervised a bureau comprising nine reporters, an assistant editor and two photographers.
  • Made all news decisions regarding news assignments, story and art play in the Fayetteville edition.

City reporter – January 1999 to October 2000

  • Covered the largest city in Northwest Arkansas, from the police beat to the city council.

City editor – October 1995 to January 1999

  • Supervised seven reporters and two photographers, and coordinated news with desk editors.
  • Played central role in redesign of The Morning News in 1996, giving advice on graphic design, sequencing of the newspaper and expansion of the editorial content.

News editor – May 1990 to October 1995

  • Supervised five desk editors.
  • Managed news placement and layout of local, state, national and international sections.
  • Worked integrally with management to shift the paper from afternoon publication to morning.
  • Led content choices for creation of the newspaper’s first website and digital archive.
